Healthy Spaces for All
CCI will be speaking at the final event for GBA's Social Equity and Health in the Built Environment Series. We’ll explore the challenges that some populations – namely K-12 schools and low-income households – face in achieving healthy indoor environmental quality and identify some core issues and solutions.
The EPA predicts that some 60,000 K-12 schools in the U.S. suffer from environmental conditions that contribute to poor indoor air quality, which can adversely affect student academic outcomes and long-term health. Meanwhile, the National Institutes of Health report that low-income communities—already burdened with greater rates of disease, limited access to health care, and other health disparities—are also the populations living with the worst built environment conditions, and that these conditions compound other issues.
Built environment practitioners have the power to ensure that everyone has access to healthy spaces. At this event, we will explore core issues relating to healthy, equitable buildings and communities, and share enabling policies and standards to help ensure everyone has access to healthy environments.
This event includes networking as well as refreshments. If you are working on a limited budget, please contact Leslie Montgomery for scholarship opportunities.
